School Magazine Evaluation

My magazine (front cover and content page) shows the codes and conventions of a stereotypical school magazine. I chose a layout like any other school magazine with a student featured in the middle with writing around the edges, highlighting the inside features. The title of my magazine is simple and large allowing it to stand out and be easily seen allowing you to see which schools it is straight away. The light blue, dark blue and white colours I have used link with the colour scheme of the school as well as the magazine keeping with a house style. This further conforms to conventions of a school magazine. I have chosen to keep the fonts the same style as I thought this looked a lot better than having loads of different ones therefore didn’t stick to the conventions of a school magazine here. I have a main image that is a medium shot of a student bang in the middle of my magazine, whom is very happy and cheerful, this is highlighting how happy and successful the students are within Whitley high.

When making the magazine I learnt and improved my skills when using Photo Shop. This allowed me to make my photos even better and will help a lot when making my music magazine. My main image got cut out and placed on a different background therefore enhanced my cutting out skills and also I grew a better understanding about layers when using Photo Shop. I also used it too slightly to adjust the hue and saturation to the soul of the girl’s shoes on my content page image to make them look cleaner and more professional. I also removed the table and chair in the left hand corner as I hadn’t realised I caught this in the image when taking it.  There were also some other things I removed with the magic tool to make it a better image for my content page.

When taking my images I needed to find natural light for my student to stand in as my background he was going to be placed on was outside. For this image on my camera I have used natural light with the flash, and had to adjust shutter speed.

Adobe InDesign was also used to make the magazine, after editing the images in photo shop I then have to use this programme to make the actually magazine. Creating the layout had to use frames and then place font and images in to them. This then allowed me to position and move things around confidently.
