Evolve:
The magazine ‘evolve’ use a mirrored image of the school as it main focal point. However, the image isn’t very appealing and readers may struggle to figure out what it is. The background however is clever starting green the fading to white, showing clouds. The colour of the screen links to the theme colour of the school itself as their uniform is green. The positioning of the images is in a circular layout surrounding the photo of the school. The images interest readers whilst highlighting key features and qualities the school contain.
Features I will take on board are the bold subheadings, stating bold and clearly what the magazines consists of. The change of font from the title to the text helps to emphasize the title more making it standout. On the other hand, the colour scheme isn’t constant and the title blends in with the back ground. To define the title more on my magazine I will have it in a colour which will make it standout.
Fusion:
Fusion magazine has bold colours with a main image in the centre of the page. This image is black and white on a red background for it to stand out. The colour scheme of red, white and black is constant. The title is all in capitals therefore standing out and underneath in small font is the slogan. I would consider using a slogan on the magazine as it can help appeal to readers. The magazine uses four smaller titles with brief summaries underneath allowing the reader to know efficiently what articles are in the magazine, making them want to pick it up and read it.
The magazine doesn’t fit the conventions of a typical school magazine subverting from usual characteristics. On school magazines you would expect it to have a student or some sort of school related image whereas this isn’t! The image looks similar to an image used for music magazines. Also the title Fusion combined with the image further adheres to rock magazines. Therefore giving this magazine a completely different look and taking it away from the school mag’s conventions.
Bishopbrigg's Academy Magazine:
The magazine’s front cover has a running colour scheme of blue, white and grey. I find this very boring and not very eye catching. The school’s logo is the first image and slightly larger than the other images, so the schools is emphasized further. The other two images highlight the contents of the magazine presenting school achievements and talents.
This magazines colour scheme is linked to the school and ties in all the images. However, this magazine doesn't look as professional due to the plain white background and lack of font change and text. There are no slogans or captions to draw the reader in perhaps representing the school to lack in creativity.
The house style, the title isn't dominant and just blends in with the rest of the magazine. The font size of ‘Bishopbriggs Academy’ isn't the same as the rest of the text therefore the images overshadow it.
